Concert raises £4,000

OVER £4,000 was raised from the 'Help for Heroes' concert which took place at Craigavon Civic Centre last Friday night.

Upper Bann MP David Simpson, who organised the event, expressed his thanks to the 500 people who attended the concert by the RIR (TA) band.

He said, “In the autumn of 2009, I completed a near 50-mile sponsored walk across the Upper Bann constituency on behalf of ‘Help for Heroes’ and, around this time, I also began to organise the concert by the RIR band.

“My intention was to ensure that admission was free in order to allow people to attend who might otherwise not have had the opportunity to do so.

"I was delighted that around 500 people packed into the Craigavon Civic Centre on Friday evening for what was a tremendous concert. We took up a collection on the night and this raised some 4,000 for ‘Help for Heroes,’ which was an excellent total.”

Mr Simpson said everyone owed “an immense debt of gratitude” to the brave men and women in uniform.
