Concern expressed over Huntly stabbing

Police were called to Golf Terrace, on the Huntly Road in the town, at approximately 11.10pm on Thursday (June 4).

A man in his 30s was found at the scene with stab wounds which are not believed to be life-threatening.

He was taken to hospital where his condition is said to be stable.

Two men, aged 24 and 37, have been arrested – one at the scene and the other in the area a short time later.

The two men have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Banbridge Councillor Glenn Barr has urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the police.

“This is usually a quiet area and there are a lot of families and older people living here,” said Mr Barr.

“I sincerely hope this is a one-off and I would urge anyone with information to contact the police on the non-emergency number 101 as soon as possible.”

Upper Bann MP David Simpson condemned the stabbing and praised the police for their quick action at the scene.

“I utterly condemn this attack in the quiet area of Huntly,” said Mr Simpson.

“An attack such as this is very unsettling for any community but especially Huntly as there are many pensioners living in the area.

“Knife culture is unfortunately making an increased appearance and I appreciate that we must have a collective approach to address this issue in our communities.

“I want to commend the work of the PSNI who administered first aid upon attending the scene and I would urge anyone with any information to please contact the PSNI.”

MLA Sydney Anderson, who is also a member of the Justice Committee at Stormont, said his thoughts and prayers were with the victim at this time. “I totally condemn the actions of those who carried out this stabbing incident,” said Mr Anderson. “It is my hope that those responsible are brought to justice.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the victim of this crime and his family at this difficult time. It is encouraging to hear that the young man’s condition has improved and I hope he makes a full recovery. I would urge anyone that has any information related to this serious crime to come forward to the PSNI. Hopefully, the police get to the bottom of what took place as soon as possible so we can prevent such incidents occurring in the future.”
