Community Centre staff triumph at NILGA awards

There were celebrations in Dromore at the weekend after staff at the community centre scooped a top award in the prestigious NILGA Local Government Awards ceremony.

The awards, which were held on Thursday evening (February 27) at the La Mon Hotel, were hosted by Pamela Ballantine and recognised excellence in councils throughout Northern Ireland.

The Awards showcase the best examples of service provision, new initiatives and personal commitment from councils, councillors and officers across local government in Northern Ireland, offering public recognition while awarding excellence in our front line local government public services.

This year, councils throughout Northern Ireland submitted entries across seven categories and a total of 74 entries were received.

Competing against teams from Cookstown District Council and Limavady Borough Council, the Dromore team were delighted to bring home to award for ‘Best Local Authority Service Team 2013’.

Councillor Paul Rankin celebrated the achievement with Centre Manager Liz Doak, Centre Staff, fellow Councillors and Council officers.

Dromore Councillor Paul Rankin commented: “I was privileged to attend this NILGA awards ceremony and we were delighted when Dromore Community Centre staff team were awarded first place in the category of ‘Best Local Authority Service Team of the Year’.

“Centre Manager Liz Doak and her staff team must be commended for their efforts in turning around the output of the Community Centre, this is a tremendous achievement.”

Lagan Valley MP Jeffrey Donaldson praised the staff for their hard work.

“I would like to congratulate the Dromore Community Centre Staff team,” said Mr Donaldson.

“This is a recognition of the excellent work that they undertake in the Community Centre and the way in which they have promoted the activities there and generated greater usage of this facility.”

Lagan Valley MLA Mrs Brenda Hale, added: “This is a fabulous achievement. Well done to Liz and her team of dedicated staff.”
