Coagh motorcyclist crashed into police car in front of Cookstown PSNI station

A motorcyclist without licence or insurance drove into the back of a police car waiting to pull into Cookstown Police Station.

The court heard how a constable was signalling to go into the station on the afternoon of September 18 when he heard a large bang from the rear of his vehicle.

He spotted the defendant, James Lawley, 22, from Windsor Terrace in Coagh, and his TGB scooter lying in the middle of Molesworth Street.

He admitted to having no insurance or licence for the scooter at the scene and, at court on Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving without due care and attention.

District Judge John Meehan handed down fines totalling £500 and six penalty points.

Judge Meehan further disqualified the defendant until he passes the appropriate driving test. An offender’s levy of £15 was also imposed.
