Mark McClure, Whitehorn Lane, Dromara, admitted unlawful possession of cannabis on March 16 this year.

The court heard that police called at the defendant’s home after a report of a disturbance and cannabis was found in a bedroom. When cautioned McClure said: “Getting this every month.”

A barrister representing the defendant said he was the subject of a combination order of 100 hours community service and one year probation for cultivation of cannabis. He added that this offence happened before the order was imposed.

The lawyer said that McClure had not been able to start community service because he became a father for the third time and was unable to keep appointments.

He added that his client had an appointment with his GP on June 10 and was anxious to start community service.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, adjourned the case until June 23 for an updated report from probation.

He said he was not impressed by what he was hearing and told McClure he could go to prison over this matter.

Judge Copeland told him to co-operate with probation or he could be in Maghaberry for the rest of the summer.
