Closure will surprise few - Gribben

SPEAKING about the decision to close Dromore Police Station Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Gribben noted that the proposed closure the Station would surprise very few. He said,

“Given that Dromore had only been operating part time and that policing of the area has been carried out from Banbridge for some time now the proposed closure was inevitable. What is important is that the monies saved by the closure are used to put more Neighbourhood Policing Officers on the ground to serve the people of the Dromore district.”

Councillor Gribben called for the property to be disposed of without delay. He said, “What we do not want to see is the saving made being eaten up in maintaining an empty building as was the case with Gilford Station.

“I would call on Chief Superintendent Robinson to give a commitment to the people of Dromore district that the money saved is used for additional police officers and to supply a shop front premises where the public can call to make complaints, apply for licences or produce documentation.”
