Rosemary Helen McCallister (51), also of Bannview Road, Banbridge, was fined £150 and given six points for permitting him to drive without insurance.

The court heard that in the early hours of the morning police found a vehicle stationary on the hard shoulder of the A1 close to Banbridge.

There was damage to the vehicle and Thomas McCallister said the tyre had blown out.

When interviewed later he accepted he had lost concentration and clipped the central reservation.

Police inquiries revealed he was not insured to drive the vehicle.

The owner was Rosemary McCallister who said she had given him permission to drive the vehicle. Both had no previous convictions.

A solicitor representing both defendants said that Rosemary McCallister believed the other defendant was insured.

He had been previously insured for the vehicle and had insurance for his own vehicle.

He added that Thomas McCallister had been driving back from a friend’s house and a loss of concentration led to the incident.
