Churh Street traffic survey planned

Local concern over the speed of vehicles at Dromore’s Church Street has moved Roads Service to agree a traffic survey.

The survey will assess the need for additional traffic calming measures as called for by residents.

Dromore Councillor Olive Mercer welcomed the news.

“Local residents are concerned,” she said, “about the speed of vehicles travelling along this stretch of road and have asked that it is considered for additional traffic calming measures.

“Such schemes are prioritised, taking into account collision histories, vehicle speeds, traffic volumes and the character of the location in question.

“This ensures that the limited available finance is targeted to those sites most in need.”

Ulster Unionist Mrs Mercer said she had been advised by Roads Service that in order to assess current traffic conditions at Church Street a traffic calming assessment would be carried out in the autumn when traffic flows return to normal.

Electronic counting equipment will be placed on Church Street to determine traffic speed, volume

and HGV content.
