Bringing details to a Council committee meeting on Monday night, Economic & tourism Development Manager, Sean Trainor, sought Council’s permission for Ballymena Town Centre Development to hold the event and added that permission had already been forthcoming from McKillens, the Ulster Bank and Probation Services who have properties at Wellington Court.

The Committee gave the inaugural festive market the go-ahead on the proposal of Cllr Beth Adger who described it as “a great idea”.

“I know that the Belfast Market brings thousands in every year and if this one is a success then maybe we can make it bigger next year,” she said.

Seconding her proposal, Cllr Jayne Dunlop added: “This is an innovative idea and I think it’s great the traders are doing this.”
