Charity pays tribute to local people for their ‘marathon’ fundraising effort

A MARATHON effort from Banbridge and Dromore runners has been acknowledged by the Cancer Focus charity whose marketing chief has thanked local fundraisers for stepping out in the recent Belfast City Marathon.

District runners were among the thousands who took part in the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon race day to raise much-needed funds for this year’s official charity.

Joyce Savage, Cancer Focus Head of Appeals and Marketing, said, “We want to send a big ‘Thank you’ to everyone who took part in a marathon event, whether it was the full 26.2miles, relay, fun-run or walk, and we hope everyone had a great race day.

“It was a fantastic fun family day out as well as giving elite athletes the chance to compete against each other. Everyone had their own personal challenge and goal to achieve and we are so impressed with the effort everyone made.”

She said the charity had benefited from “overwhelming” support and funds raised would provide vital ‘lifeline’ services for local cancer patients and their families.

“All the money raised stays in Northern Ireland and no matter how much you give, it all helps to make a real difference,” Joyce added.
