Chairman highlights ‘positive changes’

Banbridge Council Chairman, Councillor Marie Hamilton has reflected on the ‘positive developments and achievements’ which have taken place in the district in her Christmas message.

“As we head towards the conclusion of Banbridge District Council the future holds many exciting opportunities for the district,” she said.

“Much work has already gone into preparing for the new council but that has not diminished the dedication and hard work that our Elected Members, officers and council staff provide and will continue to provide.

“This year has seen considerable investment in play provision for the district with three new parks being introduced in Laurencetown, Leitrim and Gilford. Next year the council plan to invest a further £500,000 upgrading the children’s play area in Solitude Park.

“The outdoor recreational potential of Gilford’s Stramore Park has also been realised.

“I was delighted to see the opening of the new cycle hire facility at Scarva this Summer “On an environmental level the district’s recycling rates have gone from strength to strength and now stand at a very impressive 58%. This figure is expected to rise considerably with the introduction of the new pilot waste collection scheme.

“I want to convey the sincere thanks from Banbridge District Council to all the residents who have responded to the call and fully embraced the importance of recycling.

“The council fully recognises the magnificent work being carried out by the many volunteers within our community. On behalf of us all, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of them.

“Christmas is usually a time of joy and celebration however it can also be a very lonely time for some people.

“We also remember those who have lost loved ones or faced great adversity over the past year. As many of you turn to spending quality Christmas time with loved ones I would encourage you to put the real meaning of Christmas and help look out for those that may find the festive period a challenging time.

I hope that the Christmas celebrations pass off peacefully and I urge you all to take care especially on our roads.
