Samuel David Laverty, Searce Lane, Newry, was also fined £75 for the offence which happened on May 22 last year.

As well he was fined £50 for not having a licence and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard he was seen using the phone while driving on the Huntly Road, Banbridge.

A solicitor representing Laverty said he was in a works van and when the phone went off he answered it.
