This resulted in the election of Mr Ferguson as Chairman; Mrs Nan White, Honorary Secretary; and Mrs Millicent Ferguson, Honorary Treasurer.

Councillor Ingram congratulated the committee on its achievements and wished the members all the success for the future. The meeting was followed by a light supper, provided by the council.

Speaking afterwards the re-elected chairman expressed his appreciation for the generosity and support the committee get from the people in the Banbridge area.

“In this time of recession it is difficult to maintain the level of giving necessary to sustain the vital work of the charity which spends 2.5million on research in Northern Ireland each year,” he said.

But the committee remain innovative and have the following events planned for the month of March:

Friday 5 - Big Breakfast, 8.30am-2pm in Holy Trinity Church Hall; Thursday 11, table top quiz in Banbridge Hockey Club; Saturday 13, store collection at Tesco’s; Sunday 14, abseil down the Europa Hotel in Belfast by the Chairman, his son and grandso.

Support for these events contributes to the battle against cancer in a practical way.
