Canadian visitors remember Catherine in Rathfriland

A group of visitors from the City of Armstrong, British Columbia, Canada were welcomed by the Rathfriland Regeneration Group, recently to see the unveiling of an important statue.

Lord Mayor of Armagh Garath Keating welcomes Chris Peiper, Mayor of Armstrong, BC, Canada and Andy Peters, Rathfriland Regeneration Group and descendents of Catherine Schubert nee O'Hare, originally from Rathfriland, to a reception at The Palace Armagh

They visited the area to witness the unveiling of a statue of Catherine Schubert, nee O’Hare, originally from Rathfriland, the first European woman to enter British Columbia, overland from eastern Canada in the 1800’s. She remained an important part of the community until her death on July 18, 1918.
