Businessman to take DUP council seat

The DUP has selected their replacement for Carla Lockhart on Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

He is former Armagh City Councillor Terry McWilliams, who stood for the supercouncil election in Portadown in 2014 but was eliminated on the first count.

Mr McWilliams said: “I am absolutely delighted to announce that I will be re-entering the world of politics as a local Councillor for the Lurgan DEA.

“I am honoured to have been chosen by the DUP party to replace Carla Condell Lockhart on the Council following her recent election to the NI Assembly.

“Carla has been a dedicated, hard working Councillor and I intend to work with her on the issues that matter to the people of the area.

“Whilst she has hard shoes to fill I promise to work with Carla and to enhance and improve services in the Lurgan area. The DUP have and will continue to deliver for the people of the area and I am excited and honoured to be part of that team.

“Having been born, brought up, educated and worked in the area I know the issues and I am ready to roll my sleeves up and get working!

“I look forward to meeting with the community, churches, businesses, schools and charities of the area along with my colleagues Carla, Phil Moutray and our MP David Simpson.”

Mr McWilliams, who runs a car business in the Edenderrty area of Portadown, stood for election in the Portadown DEA for the ABC Council in 2014, he was eliinated on the first count with 783 first preference votes
