Independent businesses in Banbridge have joined forces to support ‘Independents’ Day’, a UK-wide campaign which highlights the importance of town centre retailers to their local economies.
The ‘Independents’ Day’ initiative is calling on consumers in Banbridge to ensure a proportion of their spending is with independent businesses on 4th July and beyond.
A range of discount offers will be available throughout the day in town centre shops in Banbridge, while there will also be family fun activities.
The Independents’ Day campaign is being led by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, with significant support from the local Chambers of Commerce and the Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association (NIIRTA).
Lord Mayor, Cllr Darryn Causby, said: “It’s vital that we do all we can to drive home the ‘shop local’ message to help town and city centres enjoy higher footfall, longer consumer dwell time and lower vacancy rates.”
One of the businesses taking part is Donaghy’s, owned by Michael Donaghy,
Michael commented: “We are pleased to note that in recent months new independents have opened in Banbridge town centre increasing our retail and leisure offer which is great news for our customers.”
One of those new businesses, Yvonne Jackson of Brown Bear said, “When I decided to open my own business there was nowhere else I would rather be, the rich variety of independently owned shops and cafes gives Banbridge a unique edge over many larger towns.
“We are pleased to bring new labels which are not available anywhere else.”
