Burglary at Scarva church

Locals have expressed their disgust after a church in Scarva was targeted by thieves in the run up to Christmas.

Police have appealed for anyone who noticed anything suspicious near or around the church property on Thursday, December 18 to contact them.

It is believed that the burglary took place at Loughbrickland Church of Ireland and locals have described the incident as ‘awful’ and ‘disgraceful’.

It is the latest in a spate of church break-in’s with St Malachy’s Parish Church in Hillsborough and two churches in the Lisburn area also being targeted. In one case a 250 year old stained glass window was shattered as the culprits attempted to enter the church.

Police in Banbridge can be contacted on the 101 number.
