Bull hoofs it to hairdressers

A LARGE bull broke its ring and went in search of a short back and sides in August 1967.

The black and white bullock broke free from the local cattle sales centre, tore up Union Street and into the hall of a hair dressing salon and went thundered up the stairs.

Fortunately there were no customers in Alison's Salon when the bull burst in and staff were just about to leave for their lunch break.

The staff then pulled over a large piece of furniture to block the bull before managing to get the animal back down the stairs - ripping wood panelling off the walls on the way and leaving hoof marks on the floor.

The manageress of the salon did not make mince meat of the incident, she said: "It must have wanted a hair-do."
