Broke door at McDonald's

Kelvin Davison, The Glebe, Portadown, admitted two charges of common assault and criminal damage to a door.

For the first assault he was fined £200 while he was bound over for 12 months in the sum of £600 for 12 months for the second assault and the criminal damage.

Davison was also ordered to pay £500 compensation towards the cost of repairing the door.

The court heard that on December 6 last year at approximately 2.20am the injured party was working as a security operator at McDonald’s in Portadown when he was pushed by the defendant.

Davison also pulled back a clenched first as if he was going to punch the person.

On December 13 at 2.15am at McDonald’s the defendant forced his way past the same security person.

He left a few minutes later and on his way out broke the door from its hinges. The cost to repair the damage came to £1,197.

Davison, who had no record, had since apologised to the injured party.

Mr Richard Monteith, representing the defendant, said Davison came from a well respected Portadown family.

He added that the defendant was a fit and strong young man and on this occasion he was in a bad temper when he pulled the door causing it to come off its hinges.

Mr Monteith said the assault was unpleasant but it was technical and Davison had met the victim personally and apologised.

The apology had been accepted.

He added that hopefully this was a one off incident and the defendant would not be in court again.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said what happened seemed entirely out of character when Davison became impatient about the queue.

He added that the defendant then went back and broke the door in ‘spectacular fashion’.
