‘Bright young star’ Daryl Comac laid to rest

Glowing tributes have been paid to “great wee lad” Daryl Comac, who was laid to rest after Requiem Mass at St Patrick’s Church in Dungannon this morning [Monday].

Daryl’s coffin was carried by some of his teammates at Killyman’s St Mary’s to his place of rest at Carland Road, Cemetery.

The “inspiring” 16-year-old was sadly found dead at his Dungannnon home on Thursday morning after his mother tired to wake him from school.

A student at St Patrick’s Academy, Daryl was a keen sportsman who played for St Mary’s GFC Killyman and was an under 14 for Eoghan Ruadh hurling club in Dungannon.

Dungannon Parish Priest, Dean Colum Curry, says he has “no doubt” the community will rally to help Daryl’s family and friends come to terms with his tragic death.

Son of Mairead and Jason, Daryl was also a beloved brother of Nathan, Kayla, Ethen and Lara.

In a statement, St Patrick’s Academy said: “The entire school community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Daryl. He was a promising student and fondly remembered by his many friends and his teachers.”

Killyman GFC have also extended their deepest sympathies to the Comac and O’Hagan families.

“Killyman St Mary’s were extremely lucky to have had the pleasure of getting to know Daryl,” they said.

“As a club and as a community we have been left devastated at the news of the passing of this bright young star.

“Daryl was very highly regarded within the club; not just for his footballing abilities but for his warmth and kindness as a person.”

Cathal McErlean of Eoghan Ruadh said Daryl was “a great wee lad” who showed great skills in hurling.
