Break-in at Bellaghy chemist ‘unacceptable’ - says Sinn Féin councillor

“I was disgusted to learn that our local chemist was broken into during the early hours of Friday morning,” she said.

“After speaking to staff following the incident it was reported that vandals stole a number of boxes of prescription drugs - diazepam.

“Also, I have spoken with PSNI Sergeant Sam Young who has assured me that they are doing all they can to catch those responsible for this crime. There is no place for this kind of thuggery in our community.

“For over 40 years, the chemist has most definitely been at the hub of our village. It is very sad that a small minority of people, who through their selfish and thoughtless actions, are content with bringing the good name of our village down.

“ The chemist provides a vital service to everyone in our community and with its operation having been disrupted on Friday morning, locals were forced to make their way elsewhere to access much needed medication.

“This is not acceptable! I commend Maurice Diamond and all the staff at the chemist who, despite Friday morning’s disruption, were quick to get the service up and running again in order to cater for the needs of locals.
