Brace yourselves folks, yet more wintry weather is on the way!

According to the MET office a band of heavy snow or sleet showers was expected from the west late last night (Monday) with widespread frost and a minimum temperature of -3C.

Though expected to be bright and mainly dry on Wednesday, by Thursday the weather was expected to be turning cloudier with light, patchy, rain and hill snow.

The much expected bad weather this week comes after last Thursday’s snow showers, which forced a number of schools to close, including Banbridge Academy as well as many primary schools.

There was also much traffic disruption which is expected to be repeated again this week.

On Monday morning, people awoke to an unexpected dusting of snow which had cleared later that morning.

The Met office warned that the public should be aware of the risk of difficult driving conditions and some travel disruption over the next few days.

On the MET website it stated that from Monday at 8pm to 12 noon on Tuesday, “An area of sleet and snow, will be reaching areas late on Monday.

“In Northern Ireland, amounts of snow at low levels will be mostly less than 2cm but hillier areas may receive in excess of 5cm.

“Clearer weather with scattered snow showers will follow to parts of Northern Ireland by Tuesday morning, allowing icy stretches to form.”

“The public should be aware of the risk of difficult driving conditions and some travel disruption.”
