Bound over to keep peace

Nathan McCormick (21) from Thorn Heights was bound over to keep the peace for two years on his own recognisance of 400 after pleading guilty to common assault.

The court heard how the incident came to light around 2am on May 23 when approximately 100 persons were outside the Belmont Hotel waiting on buses and taxis.

A female approached police and claimed that McCormick had been assaulted by another man. However McCormick refused to make a formal complaint.

Minutes later McCormick seen the man who allegedly assaulted him earlier and punched him in the face, in full view of the police.

He struggled during arrest and had to be handcuffed on the ground.

Solicitor Mr Con Lavery said McCormick had actually been headbutted, and when he came round he was "in a fit of rage and struck out."

District Judge Mr Paul Copeland reminded McCormick that the binding over order prohibited him from entering into disorderly or aggressive conduct.

He added, "You will now be known on the streets by the police and your behaviour will be monitored."
