Billy worked as a weaver

PROFOUND sorrow spread over a wide area when it was learned of the passing of Mr William James Brush 26 Hayes Park Seapatrick, Banbridge which took place at Craigavon Area Hospital on Wednesday 21st March. He was the dearly loved husband of Dorothy Isobel Brush.

Billy as he was affectionately known to all those who had the pleasure of knowing him was a man of many sterling qualities and was highly respected. A native of Belfast he left the city as a boy of 12 years old and came to reside with his parents in Dromore, Co. Down.

He would have come to Banbridge to dances here and met Miss Dorothy Wright and they were married in 1951. He worked as a Weaver and latterly with the Ford Motor Company at Dunmurray. Billy loved horse racing and indeed most sports which he watched on television.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish Church but his main interest was centred around his home and family and it is there that his passing will be mostly felt and lived at 26 Hayes Park, Seapatrick where his wife was born.

He is survived by his wife, four daughters Mrs. Margaret Witley (England), Mrs. Mildred Mawhinney (Kilkinamurry), Mrs. Hazel Willis (Banbridge) and Mrs. Alison McQuaid (Seapatrick), one son Mr. Clifford Brush (Banbridge), sons-in-law Tim, William, Victor and Philip, daughter-in-law Janet, 12 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, four brothers Joe, Ned, Jackie and Theo. To these and all other relatives sincere sympathy has been extended.

The funeral which was largely attended took place privately from his home on Friday March 23 for a service in Holy Trinity Parish Church at which his minister the Rev. Mark Greenstreet paid a fitting tribute.

Rev Greenstreet also officiated at the Home, Church and Graveside, and the very large congregation heard him pay a fitting tribute to Billy’s life. He was assisted by Captain Geoffrey Walmsley.

The hymns ‘Great Is Thy Faithfulness’ and ‘Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah’ were sung. Mr. R. Anketel presided at the organ. The interment took place in the New Cemetery. Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co.
