Over 60 people heard Irene McCaffrey of Impact Fitness talk about how eating fresh food can make you strong, fit and enjoy good health for much longer. Buying fresh single ingredients, supporting your local butchers, farmers, and fruit and vegetable shops was the core of Irene’s talk. She also urged people to read food labels and steer away from buying processed food as much as possible.

Irene said, “The horse meat scandal has caused everyone to question whether they can trust buying processed food. We need to be more aware of what type of food we are putting into our bodies. Certainly the big turnout would show that people are concerned.”

Local butcher, Hannan Meats Ltd, discussed the difference in quality between shop bought and locally butchered meat. While Diane Gardiner gave a cookery demonstration showing how easy it is to use local food produce to make simple and easy meals for the family.

A special thanks to Linwood’s Health Foods who distributed samples of their milled organic flaxseed, Johnston Weir who distributed local free range eggs and Irene McCaffrey who donated £1500 worth of one week Boot Camp vouchers. And to top it all £300 was collected on the night in aid of NI Chest Heart and Stroke.

A great night was had by all.
