‘Be Safe Stay Safe’ message reiterated to Actively Ageing Well group

BANDRIDGE Aging Well group got some timely safety advice at their latest meeting, thanks to a new initiative.

Under the “Be Safe Stay Safe” project Banbridge Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) worked in partnership with the Banbridge Actively Ageing Well group at their meeting on January 29 to look at practical ways to be safe and stay safe when at home and when out.

The project is funded through the Big Lottery, led by Leonard Cheshire Disability and involving a range of statutory and voluntary sector partners.

Banbridge PCSP is the first PCSP to pilot the local delivery of this project to involve local representatives from appropriate partner agencies to supplement the advice given via the project and give groups the opportunity to engage in person with PCSP partners.

Over 60 people watched a short DVD which helped them to identify tips about being safe at home from not letting unexpected callers into your home to a straightforward night time fire safety routine that could save lives.

Using a light timer with a lamp in your home when you’ve gone out, keeping your keys safe and planning your journey were just some of the practical ways that the group heard about that can help to keep you safe when you’re out and about.

Additional advice was given by local representatives from the PCSP partners agencies – NI Fire & Rescue; the Council’s Community Safety Wardens; the PSNI E District Crime Prevention Officer and two of the Banbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team officers.
