Be breast aware with Gordon’s Chemist

Gordons Chemists in Banbridge would appeal to all women aged 40-49 and 70 and above to call into their local store on Friday October 19 during ‘Breast Action Day’ to sign up for a free breast screening or simply sign the ‘Ribbon of Hope’.

In addition, an Action Cancer health promotion officer will be in the Newry Street store between 0930-1030 on Friday 19 October offering Gordons Chemists’ customers informal advice on how to be breast aware.

The Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign is running in-store throughout the month of October, however this is the focus day for ladies to sign up for a breast screening with Northern Ireland’s leading local cancer charity, Action Cancer.

Since the partnership began five years ago, 2,300 women have completed request forms instore and, in addition to providing self-referral forms, Northern Ireland’s leading independent pharmacy chain is committed to supporting Action Cancer with instore fundraising.

“Staff and customers have raised a vital £150,000 towards the screening programme and customers can call in on 19th October and sign the ‘Ribbon of Hope’ to help with the fundraising total and encourage women across Northern Ireland who have been effected by breast cancer.

John Clark, General Manager, Gordons Chemists, said, “This is our fifth year supporting Action Cancer’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Our staff are committed to the campaign and building on the vital funds we have raised over the last four years so on October 19 our stores will be decorated with splashes of pink as we celebrate the day in a fun and focused way to help saves lives.

“We decided to introduce the ‘Ribbon of Hope’ this year to give customers an opportunity to add their signature to a ribbon to encourage other women effected by breast cancer, to remember friends or loved ones they may have lost to this disease or maybe even to give themselves hope as they undergo treatment. We are really looking forward to assisting the campaign with new requests for free breast screenings from the self-referral forms completed in-store and to raising funds to save, support and reassure.”
