Battle victory a ‘Mere’ marvel

A Dromore singer-songwriter has emerged victorious from a battle of the bands.

Patrick Wright, who performs as ‘Mere Moths’ was invited to take part in the recent Red Sails Festival Battle of The Bands competition in Portstewart.

There, the guitarist and ukulele player was one of two solo acts taking part.

Battle of the Bands contests typically pit an array of bands - often musical actsfrom a range of different styles - one against the other in a bid to secure the itle of best band.

The winner is determined either by a panel of judges orthe general response of theaudience - sometimes a combination of both.

The Red Sails competition played out against the backdrop of Portstewart Town Hall

Four full bands and two solo artists from across the province were competing .

Patrick/Mere Moths, one of those two solo acts, emerged as overall winner.

The win ensures Mere Moths will be performing at next year’s Red Sails Festival.

He also picked up prizes from The Music Room, Coleraine and The Vinyl Touch, Coleraine.
