Banner at church torn by vandals

St Paul's Church of Ireland in Gilford was targeted by vandals at the weekend - with a banner advertising a car wash and cake sale at the church torn down within hours of being erected.

The Car Wash, Cake Sale and Coffee morning on Saturday, 18th June, is one of a number of fundraising initiatives planned.

The church had invested in a banner to promote the event. It was put in place on Saturday evening but as members of the congregation arrived at church on the following morning they were saddened to see that it had been vandalised and left lying on the ground.

One parishioner said, “This seems to be an all-time low, as someone went to great lengths to destroy this banner as it had been placed high on the wall of the church.

Banbridge has a greater population and yet no one seems to want to destroy property belonging to their churches.”

St Paul’s has vowed not to let a small minority either bring disgrace to the village nor deter their efforts as the event will continue as planned on Saturday 18th June 10.00am–12.30pm with all welcome to attend
