Banned for six months on no insurance charge

A 31 year-old mother of two from Banbridge has been banned from driving for six months after being caught driving with no insurance.

Andrea Brown from Summerhill who already had six points on her licence from a previous no insurance conviction, was given another six last Thursday in addition to a £300 fine and a £15 offenders levy.

Brown was detected by police on the Drumlough Road, Rathfriland on 12 March.

She was unable to produce her documents and failed to attend the police station.

A solicitor said his client had given birth in February and the child was “in and out of hospital” resulting in her direct debits being cancelled by the insurance company.

He said Brown had “more pressing matters.”

He said she was a hairdresser who was currently on maternity leave. Brown was given 20 weeks to pay the fine.
