A Rathfriland woman caught driving with no insurance or ‘L’ plates has been banned for six months.

In addition to the driving ban, she was fined a total of £400.

Last week’s Banbridge Magistrate’s Court heard how unemployed Keys came to police attention on 2 February at 9.30pm when she was observed turning into Downpatrick Street, Rathfriland.

She continued onto the Castlewellan Road before police stopped her Clio car.

A PPS prosecutor said there was no suggestion Keys was speeding and when officers spoke to her they noted that the vehicle test certificate had expired in 2012.

A solicitor said his client caused police no problems at the scene and held her hands up at the first opportunity.

Keys was given eight weeks to pay the fines. She was also ordered to pay an offender’s levy of £15.
