David Boston, Hillhead Drive, Ballyvally, Banbridge, appeared at last Thursday’s court and was banned from driving for three months.

He was also fined £200 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy for driving with excess speed on April 7 this year. The court heard he was detected travelling at 100mph in a 70mph zone on the A1 dual carriageway.

A solicitor representing Boston said he would say it was a ‘lapse of concentration’ and he did not realise his speed he was driving at.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, said it was an ‘excessive and irresponsible’ speed. He added that the public was continually warned about the risk of driving at high speed and this offence warranted a period of disqualification.
