Band concerts make a return

The air will soon be filled with the sound of music as the ever popular Sunday Scarva Band Concerts make a welcome return to the village bandstand on April 5.

The new season, which runs each Sunday from April until September from 3pm – 4pm, commences with Banbridge Silver Band providing a blissful afternoon of timeless concert tunes.

So why not come along and enjoy a relaxing Sunday afternoon at the magnificent Victorian bandstand on Scarva Green, set amidst the tranquil setting of award winning Scarva village, renowned for its superb floral displays.

All concerts are organised by the South West Down Bands Association and supported by Banbridge District Council.

The bands performing this April will be: Sunday April 5 - Banbridge Silver Band; Sunday April 12 - Banbridge Accordion Orchestra; Sunday April 19; Rathfriland Silver Band Sunday April 26 and Castlewellan Accordion Orchestra.

Don’t forget to visit Scarva Visitor Centre and learn about the unique archaeology of the area from the Danes Cast, Lisnagade and Lisnavaragh and learn about the transportation role of the nearby Newry Canal at the height of the linen and coal industries.

The adjoining Tearooms serve delicious homemade cakes, tea and coffee, overlooking the natural beauty of the canal and gardens.

Why not pay a visit to Scarva Park with children’s play area and picturesque lakeside walks nearby. Or take a stroll or cycle along the Newry Canal Towpath enjoying the abundance of plant and wildlife, which make it a haven for bird lovers, including the resident swans.
