With the advantage of playing over their home course, team captain, Dougie Stevenson, was hoping that his Banbridge team would come in with a good score and move up the league table. His men didn’t let him down.

Sydney Pepper and Aidan Doran both had 38 points.

Seamus McGrath and Brian Mulholland both had 35 points.

That gave Banbridge a four-card total of 146 points. This was certainly one of the best team scores of the day. It will improve the Banbridge league position, that’s for sure.

The other four members of the local team were Norman Doak, Ian Boyce, Philip Strong and Merton McDowell.

Round five of the MUSA will be played at Ardglass on Monday the 6th of July. That will be the halfway stage of the league and Banbridge will want to be in a top three position. It’s looking good so far.

Young Christopher McAvoy (10) won the Open Stableford last Thursday.

Three birdies on the first seven holes was the basis of a great round for Christopher. He went on to accumulate 41 points, the winning score.

Paddy Malcolmson (14) was runner-up with 40 points.

Eamon Galloway (18) was third with 39 points.

Gavin Mc Kenna, a plus two handicapper, made the journey from Fortwilliam Golf Club to try out the new-look Banbridge course.

He had a very successful visit as he won the best gross prize with a two under par 67.

The Thursday Open is growing in popularity every week. Why not give it a try?

This week’s is a little bit special, as the men will play for the Lady Captain’s prizes.
