Banbridge man in court accused of tampering with electricity supply

Colin Boyd from Mountview Terrace appeared before Judge Copeland last Thursday and his case was adjourned for two weeks to allow time for a pre-sentence report which is likely to consider community service.

The court heard how on 29 September, police searched his home under warrant and discovered 13 grams of herbal cannabis.

While there, officers noted that Boyd’s electricity meter was being by-passed.

He was charged with all offences and made a full and frank admission. Boyd told police he had smoked cannabis for over 30 years for personal reasons and had crossed the meter for financial reasons.

Judge Copeland commented that Boyd had a “significant record for dishonesty and deception.”

A solicitor said his client receives Income Support and Carer’s Allowance and last worked four years ago.

He was remanded on bail of £400.
