Banbridge father passes away suddenly at his home

The Banbridge district has been left shocked by the sudden death of a well-known and popular father-of-two at his own home,

Gary Richard Thompson, died on April 16, at Weavers Meadow. He was 47 years old.

The former Belfast man and keen Linfield Football Club fan moved to Banbridge 17 years ago. He was married to Jennifer (Jenny) and was father to Hayley and Scott.

He worked in the civil service and had a great passion for football. As well as a Linfield fan he was also a keen supporter of Glasgow Rangers and a member of the Northern Ireland Football Supporters Club.

However, Gary’s main interest was centred around his home and family.

He is survived by his wife and children, mother Lilian, brother Alan and sisters Ingrid and Heidi.

The funeral took place from his home on Monday for a service in Holy Trinity Parish Church which was filled to capacity.

Minister Ven. Roderic West paid a fitting tribute to his life. He was assisted by the Rev. Rosie Diffin and the hymns ‘The Lord’s My Shepherd’ and ‘Here I Am Lord’ were sung. Mr Roly Anketel presided at the organ. The interment took place afterwards in the New Cemetery.

Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu are being sent to William Bell and Co. Funeral Directors Kenlis Street, for Chest, Heart and Stroke.
