Ballymarlow’s Great War sacrifice

Members of the Ballymarlow Ulster Scots group have compiled information from a variety of sources which helps tell the stories of former members of Ballymarlow LOL637 who died in the Great War.

And their work has been praised by DUP Assemblyman, Paul Frew who is encouraging everyone to come to Ballymarlow Orange Hall on Wednesday evening (November 5 7-9 pm) to learn about these men and their history.

Mr. Frew said: “Whilst there were 16 men from the lodge who went off to war, four men never came back. Charles and James Gordon who fought with the Canadian infantry, John Maybin Royal Irish Rifles and Robert Cuthbert of the Scots Guards. At this time we focus on the Great War and the sacrifices made by so many but many simply do not realise the way such losses affected our local communities.”
