Ballymacash pupils give a ‘helping hand’ to charity

REPRESENTATIVES from the pupil council of Ballymacash Primary School recently presented a cheque for £600 to Nigel Kearney from the Helping Hand charity.

Helping Hand was established by the medical staff at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children in 1997 with the single aim of helping the children in their care.

Speaking about the children’s fundraising achievement, Helping Hand’s Nigel Kearney said: “The Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children is the only children’s hospital without a scanner and our aim is to raise £2 million pounds over the next two years. Donations and help like this from Ballymacash PS are very much appreciated and desperately needed if we are to achieve this target.”

Explaining how the money was raised, Alexander, the P6 representative from the School council, said:

“In order that we kept the theme of ‘helping hands’ we asked all the children to help out at home with various jobs and tasks over the course of one week.

“It ranged from tidying their rooms, washing cars to walking the dog. Their parents then paid them to do this and all monies were donated to the charity.”
