Ballydown church member Ellen dies at 86

The passing of Mrs Ellen Newell of Dickson Park, Seapatrick, Banbridge took place at Craigavon Area Hospital on September 1.

She was the dearly loved wife of William Newell who predeceased her some 26 years ago. Elma, as she was affectionately known, was formerly Elma Gallagher. After her marriage to William they went to reside in Gilford for a short time and then returned to Seapatrick. She worked in Hayes Mill and then in the Warehouse of Thomas Ferguson & Son Edenderry Factory.

She had reached the age of 86 years. She was a member of Ballydown Presbyterian Church but her main interest was centred around her home and family and it is there that her passing will be mostly felt. She is survived by her brother-in-law Jimmy Neades, nephews Jim, Christopher and Paul (Wales), nieces Edith and Anne Kelly (Lenaderg).

The funeral took place on Wednesday, September 4 which was conducted by the Rev Liam Rutherford who gave an inspiring address. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Craigavon Area Hospital, carers, the Rev. Liam Rutherford and the ladies of Ballydown church for all their help.

Interment took place following the service in the adjoining churchyard. Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co. Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR for Ballydown Presbyterian Church Building Fund. William Bell and Co. had charge of the funeral arrangements.
