Ballydown Church to host wedding fayre for charity

A team from Ballydown Church is planning a trip to New Beginnings Children’s Village in Uganda, and is staging a number of charity events to help raise funds.

The first of these is a Spring Wedding Fayre, on Wednesday, April 2 from 6.30pm until 9.30pm at the Ballydown Church Complex.

In less than two months, the team of eight people will travel 6,628 miles to Nakasongola to spend two weeks volunteering at New Beginnings children’s village, working alongside the house parents and the children.

They are bringing a range of skills both collectively and individually and they hope to be involved in a variety of activities during their time there.

They plan to do sports activities with the children, including football, volleyball, parachute games and skipping, and have organised a holiday Bible club programme.

They have been told that the children love face painting, getting their nails painted and of course, like all children, that they enjoy the simple pleasures of blowing bubbles, so the team will certainly be well supplied with such things.

Some areas, identified by staff at New Beginnings, that the team can partake in are teaching English and work with special needs children.

Also, part of what the team are doing is to help improve life skills e.g. for the girls, teaching them to develop and improve their sewing skills so that as young women they will take a very useful life skill with them when they leave the orphanage, in being able to find work and have an income and make clothes for themselves.

The team may also find themselves doing very practical work such as working in the fields alongside staff and children where the orphanage are developing the land and growing their food.

To help raise money for the trip, Balilydown Church are hoping everyone will come along to the wedding fair at the beginning of April.

A spokesperson for the church explained: “We have been delighted with the response from businesses who want to come along and exhibit.

“We will have everything you need to plan for your special wedding day and also for your future marriage together.

“We are confident of a great turnout of future brides, grooms and their families. Admission is free and there complimentary tea/coffee. Come along and get your own goodie bag. For up-to-date information on the wedding fayre, connect with us on Ballydown Wedding Fayre facebook page.

“We have a few spaces left for potential exhibitors who wish to join us for an event that will generate contacts and potential business.
