Ballycastle deaths: police rule out carbon monoxide poisoning

Police have confirmed today that the investigation is ‘ongoing’ into the deaths of a couple in Ballycastle on Thursday evening.

The bodies of Kenneth Boughey, aged 68 and Rita Boughey aged 79, were discovered inside their home at the Abbey area of Ballycastle at around 8:30pm on Thursday.

In an update on Monday morning, Chief Inspector Mark McClarence said: “The police investigation into the causes of the deaths of Kenneth and Rita Boughey is continuing.

“Post mortem examinations were carried out on Friday and we are awaiting the results of further toxicology tests.

“However, the post mortem ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning as a cause of death.

“At this time, the deaths continue to be treated as unexplained.”
