Bail refused in burglary case

Lorraine Myles made a bail application on compassionate grounds to attend her son’s confirmation.

However, due to the fact she could not raise any of the 35-year-old’s bail money, District Judge Mr Copeland said he was refusing the application and advised Myles to apply to the High Court.

Myles, along with another female is charged with burglary with intent to cause unlawful damage, possession of CS spray and damaging property including a window belonging to Noel Rodgers.

Earlier this month the court heard how significant damage was caused to a house at Wrights Park in the town. Items damaged include a sofa, a fish tank, Toshiba television, seven picture frames, an electric shower, two lampshades, two portable televisions and a Sky box.

On Thursday District Judge Mr Copeland said he could not understand why resources could not be identified by Myles to meet this “modest amount.”

He said, “My big concern is that if I release her she is gone.”

Her solicitor said Myles was aware of the seriousness of the charges and agreed that the court could “only take her word for it” in relation to abiding by bail.

Mr Copeland added, “I have the law to consider. A High Court Judge may take a different view.”
