Assembly vote is welcomed

Local Ulster Unionist MLA Jo-Anne Dobson has welcomed the vote in the Assembly to extend the powers of the National Crime Agency (NCA) to operate in Northern Ireland to the same extent as it does in the rest of the UK.

Mrs Dobson said: “On the NCA’s website it describes itself as ‘a new crime-fighting agency’ with both national and international reach.

“I am pleased the Assembly has voted to enable the NCA to operate here .

“This will end the situation where Northern Ireland was more vulnerable to serious and organised criminal gangs who engage in activities including people trafficking, drugs, cyber-crime and child exploitation.”
