Assaulted a police officer in drugs row

When police arrested a female for a drug offence a 21-year-old man tried to get her away from them and in the course of the struggle assaulted an officer.

Colin Brady, Church View Close, Lawrencetown, admitted possession of cannabis resin on June 3, 2015, assaulting an officer and resisting a constable. For each offence he was fined £100 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that when approached by police Brady became aggressive and he was asked to hand over any drugs he had.

When a co-defendant was arrested he tried to pull her away from police and he started to shout. During the course of the struggle he assaulted an officer.

A solicitor representing Brady said this happened some time ago. The solicitor said his client had been off drink and drugs for some time and was on a much better path.
