Dromore Nursery School recently held its annual Duck Race and Leaving Celebration, principal, Mrs Sharon Beattie, hailing it another success.
“It is hard to believe,” she said as she thanked parents, “that this is the 15th group of children I have said goodbye to as they move on to primary school, but what a privilege to have been part of so many families’ journeys in education.”
Of the event itself, Mrs Beattie reported that, “as always” the Dromore community had weighed in behind it.
She added: “A huge thank-you to the following for their continued support -W J Baxters and Co, R Waller Boiler Engineering, S J Anderson and Sons Ltd Construction, AutoGleam Car Service and Home Fuels, BJ Cabs, Old Mill Garden Centre, Hampers by kim, R J Tinsley, Lagan Valley Vets, Johnston’s Pharmacy, Property Partners, Nelson Singleton, Youngs Family Butchers, Sam Baird Optician, Brenda Hale MLA, Moundview Service Station, Patricia Hamilton School of Music and Performing Arts, Fiona Jennings Optician, Pooles Supervalu, Dromore, Tullyraine Equine Clinic, Ward and Colins and Fred Elliot Butchers.”
Race winners were: Business - Fiona Jennings Optician; Nursery - 1, Scott Magill; 2,Fraser Kelly; 3,Katrin Mackrell; General Race - 1, Sam Campbell; 2, Erin Black; 3,Sophie Leckey. Best Name - Count Duckula by Lacie McCandless.
“The event could not take place,” said Mrs Beattie, “without the faithful and selfless support of the local Fire Brigade, Red Cross, anglers and caretaking staff of Dromore High School, all of whom give of their time free of charge.”
Afterwards the children returned to school and entertained the 250-plus audience with songs and rhymes. Each child received a memory book of their work over the school year and a selection of photographs, along with their Leaving Certificates, presented by Mrs Roberta Ogle, one of the school’s long-serving classroom assistants.
