Another historic day for the Apprentices

Not only will two gun carriages be brought onto the City Walls for the first time in 160 years, but an initiation ceremony for the new candidates to The Baker Club and the Apprentice Boys of Derry will take place for the first time in both organisations’ history in St Columb’s Cathedral.

The event is known as ‘The Apprentice Boys and Baker Day’ and happens annually, and is the traditional day when new ‘Apprentices’ are inducted into the Apprentice Boys.

Guests will include ‘Apprentices’ from Scotland and the wider UK, as well as Parent and Branch Clubs across Northern Ireland.

The parade of the gun carriages will start at 11am from Iona Terrace, and will make its way along Clooney Terrace, Spencer Road, Craigavon Bridge, Carlisle Road, and into Ferryquay Street to the The Diamond and Bishop Street, into Palace Street and onto the Walls, at which point a circuit of the Walls will be made by the Brethren and their guests, some of whom will be dressed in period costume.
