Allowed disqualified man to drive her car

Six penalty points were imposed on a 52-year-old woman last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for permitting someone to drive without having insurance.

Doris Allen, Ballyvally Heights, Banbridge, was also fined £50 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at approximately 11.20pm a car struck bollards in front of a shop at Dromore Road, Banbridge.

There was a smell of alcohol on the breath of the man who was driving and he was arrested. The defendant was a passenger in the vehicle.

When interviewed at a later date she admitted she was the owner of the vehicle and let the man drive but she did know he was a disqualified driver and had drink taken.

Her solicitor said she wasn’t aware of the position with insurance and if she had known she would not have let him drive.
