Alliance Party select Lavery as candidate

Peter Lavery has been selected by the Alliance Party to run in Upper Bann in the upcoming Westminster elections.

Following his selection, the Aghagallon man paid tribute to Sheila McQuaid, the Alliance Westminster candidate in previous elections, who passed away last year.

“It is an honour to be selected as the Alliance Westminster for Upper Bann,” said Mr Lavery. “I would also like to pay tribute to Councillor Sheila McQuaid, whose recent passing hit us all hard, but whose energetic and positive work for her constituents was an inspiration to me, and showed me what a good local representative is, and the good work that they can achieve.”

Mr Lavery graduated from Queen’s University Belfast with a first class master’s degree in mathematics and works as a Data Analyst in the IT sector in Belfast.

He also stood as the Alliance candidate for Lurgan in the 2014 Local Government election.

“I will be a voice for all constituents in Upper Bann and work for the benefit of everybody in Northern Ireland,” he added

Congratulating Mr Lavery on his selection, Alliance Party Leader David Ford said: “Alliance is a party on the rise with increasing membership. With such a large turnout today from members from all across Northern Ireland, from all backgrounds, it shows Alliance’s broad appeal and commitment to building a united community. Alliance will be running a candidate in every single constituency across Northern Ireland. We will not be involved in, or afraid of, any pacts which may come to pass.

“Our candidate in Upper Bann, Peter Lavery, will be a strong voice for Alliance in the area, and I would like to wish him and the local association the best of luck in their coming campaign.”
