ADVICE: How to prevent burst pipes

NI WATER has offered Ulster homeowners advice on how to protect their pipes when temperatures drop.

NI Water say they have “gone the extra mile for our customers” by placing a short video on the Youtube website showing customers where to look for pipes that can freeze.

The demonstration also shows how occupiers can turn their water supply off should a burst occur.

“The effects of dealing with the aftermath of a burst pipe in a home or business can be devastating,” said Celine Rodgers of NI Water.

“Water can cause serious damage to furniture and carpets and often treasured possessions have to be thrown away.

“Taking half an hour now to check the pipes around and within your property could save future heartache.”

Simple advice includes insulating water tanks and pipes in unheated areas such as roof spaces and outbuildings, keep your boiler well serviced and if you go on holiday, leave a key with a neighbour or friend who can check the house regularly.
