Accused of having sex with animal

A 42-year-old Ballyroney man appeared in court last week facing serious charges of making indecent images of children, and of having sexual intercourse with an animal.

Garth Michael Williams from Mill Road appeared in Banbridge Court via videolink.

He faces a total of five charges; possession of indecent photographs, making indecent photographs of a child, distributing indecent photos of a child and possession of an extreme pornographic image - each charge relates to March 3 2014.

The fifth charge is that on a date unknown, he had sexual intercourse with a living animal. Last Thursday’s court heard this was a new matter and first appeared before the court on April 5.

His solicitor told District Judge Mr Copeland that on April 5 an application for legal aid had been refused, but since then Williams had been dismissed from employment.

The court also heard that bail was fixed on the last appearance, however his solicitor said he had no bail address.

Legal aid was granted and he was remanded in custody for a further three weeks if his bail could still not be perfected.
